What bike should I choose? Back to top
Choosing a bike depends on the type of ride you are looking for. The most popular bike for casual, round- the- bay- trail touring is the comfort hybrid. The second most popular bike is the comfort mountain. For advanced rides up to Mt. Tamalpais a performance bike is recommended, while riding through the Marin Headlands might require a MTB. Please consult our staff during check in if you have any questions regarding your preferred route and which bike to choose, we are happy to accommodate a bike change from your original reservation.
What is the difference between self guided and daily guided tours? Back to top
Self Guided bike tours are exactly that: self guided. Our staff will give you a bike map and assist in determining the best route based on what you'd like to see. Our daily guided tours lasts up to three hours and are narrated by an experienced guide who leads the tour from Fisherman's Wharf to Sausalito. Daily guided tours begin at our 2661 Taylor street location and end in Sausalito where you have the option to bike back to Fisherman's Wharf or return by ferry.

Our power assisted eco-friendly electric bikes come equipped with a motor and torque sensor that provide an extra boost when pedaling. Electric bikes will help you get up those San Francisco hills and cover more ground without any extra effort. Which ride would you recommend for me? Back to top
We recommend four favorite rides: Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito, the former extended from Sausalito to Tiburon, City Coast and Parks, and exploring the Marin Headlands (can include Muir Woods, Mt. Tamalpais, Conzelman Loop & more). Recommendations are based on riding ability, distance, and time.
The most popular route, suitable for everyone- beginner, children & those who do not regularly ride- is Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito. Continuing onto Tiburon is also an easy ride but a farther distance. For advanced riders, we recommend heading up towards the Marin Headlands or Mt. Tamalpais. Please consult our staff during checkout to determine the best ride for your day of rental.
We have young children, can they do these rides? Back to top
All kids have different riding skill levels. The good news is we have something for everyone! The baby seat can fit a six month old up to a sturdy toddler while the trailer is good for carrying 1-2 toddlers and their gear. Adults can pair up with a child, via tag-a-long or tandem bicycle: both are great for the budding cyclist who pedals only when inclined, but still feels the pride of the ride!
Helmets are available and required for riders under the age of 18. Riders over the age of 18 have the option to use a helmet, provided with rental. Feel free to bring your own if you'd like.
Will you give us a lock? Back to top
Included FREE with all bike rentals are: helmets, front camera bags, bells, maps & map holders, water bottle holders, puncture repair kits, locks, and detailed map assistance. With the higher end bikes- going long distances- we usually throw in a tube as well.
Do we need to purchase ferry tickets? Back to top
Ferry tickets are available for purchase at our shop counters, and is recommended to save time at boarding. That said, tickets can always be purchased on the boat in either Sausalito or Tiburon.
I want to bring my own pedals. Can you put them on for me? Back to top
Absolutely- please note we change pedals on the performance bikes only. Please tell us in "comments" box on reservation page that you'll be bringing them; the service is free.
Do you have SPDs? Back to top
Yes, we have SPDs available- and other pedal types- for all the performance bikes ONLY. We mount them (as noted, you may also bring your own pedals) for Performance bikes only: Escape/ Rapid; Road; and Dual Suspension Mountain bikes. You can request them in the "comments" box on reservation page at no extra charge. Other pedal types include Look and Look Keo.
What will the weather be like? What should I wear? Back to top
Weather in San Francisco can vary from neighborhood to neighborhood! Weather can be sunny one minute then foggy the next- and its almost always sunny and ten degrees warmer in Sausalito! We always recommend layers: dress comfortably enough for your bike ride but also consider the variations in our weather. Also, the bikes have rear racks & Bungees to strap down any extra layers. Ponchos for rainy weather are available for purchase at our shops.

Please arrive no later than 15 minutes prior to tour departure time for bike fitting and registration.

Daily Guided Tour Packages Include: Professionally Guided Tour (up to 3 hours), 24-Hour Bike Rental, Helmet, Front Handlebar Bag, Bike Bell, Kryptonite Lock, Rear Rack and Bungee, Map & Map Holder.

Daily Guided Tours are available at 10:00am and 1:00pm daily (depending on availability). Reservations are taken on a first come first served basis so be sure to make your reservation early.
How long do your tours last? Back to top
Tours last up to 3 hours and depend on riding ability of the group.
What happens if I am late for my tour? Back to top
Daily Guided Tours depart promptly, so if you are late for your tour, you may miss the departure. However, they make sightseeing stops so you may be able to catch them- if possible, one of our team will help call the guide for you. Also, you can still have all the other inclusions of your tour- bikes, ferry (if purchased), etc- so all is not lost! Please note no-shows are charged in full.
Can I change my tour date/time on the day of my reservation? Back to top
Yes you can. Please note that a reservation date is changed from its original date (aka amended reservation) will no longer qualifies for 24 hour cancellation. No shows on amended reservations would be charged in full, and are considered non-refundable.
Do you offer tours in different languages? Back to top
Tours are in English but our staff is international and can sometimes accommodate other languages. Please check with our group sales department for availability in other languages.
Will my tour be cancelled if weather is bad? Back to top
Tours run rain or shine. If we determine the weather is dangerous, your tour will be rescheduled or refunded (depending on availability).
Are gratuities included in tour price? Back to top
Gratuities are not included in tour price, and are not expected, but are of course welcome and a wonderful way to let the guide know how well they hosted you.

Group tours are customized and therefore vary based on need. Group tours can include any of the following: Experienced Guides, Bike Rental, Roadside Assistance, Liability Coverage, Bike Delivery, Bike Pick Up, Boxed lunch or reservations.

Do you transport bikes out of San Francisco? Back to top
Yes we do transport bikes to desired locations in and around the San Francisco Bay Area- for offsite events and staging of rides.
Reservations and Confirmations
Are reservations necessary? Back to top
Reserving a bike in advance will give you a 10% discount and make the process of getting your bike go faster, as the paperwork is done and the bikes are ready for you. Reservations are especially recommended for all performance bikes- road, performance mountain, fitness, dual suspension bikes, as riders can also choose pedal options.

We can accommodate same day reservations for self guided tour options. For daily guided tours, we recommend making your reservation at least 48 hours prior to tour departure.

When you arrive for check-in, please bring a photo ID and credit card to be used for the deposit.
I don’t’ have a copy of my voucher, what do I do? Back to top
For all reservations made through baycitybike.com, we will have a copy of the reservation on hand. For all third party reservations, we strongly suggest bringing the voucher as not all reservations are received in a timely manner.
Can I use my mobile device to present my confirmation? Back to top
Yes, we accept vouchers and confirmations via mobile devices. Simply present your device at check-in.
Is my credit card charged when the reservation is made or day of bike hire? Back to top
Your credit card is charged when you submit your reservation. Cancellations within the cancellation policy will be refunded accordingly. No shows and cancellations outside of the cancellation window will not be refunded.

Cancellations made prior to 24 hours of reservation date are fully refunded. Cancellations made within 24 hours of the reservation date are charged a $20.00 administration fee. Reservation no shows are charged in full, and considered non-refundable. If a reservation date is changed from its original date, the changed reservation no longer qualifies for cancellation, is charged in full, and is considered non-refundable.

I booked through a third party, what do I have to do? Back to top
For all third party reservations, we strongly suggest bringing the voucher as not all reservations are received in a timely manner. You will need to present a photo ID as well as a Credit Card for the deposit.
I booked through a daily deal site, do I need to make a reservation? Back to top
If you purchased a self guided tour, you do not need to make a reservation. Just print out your voucher, bring credit card with ID, and come into any one of our 3 convenient Fisherman's Wharf locations. If you purchased a daily guided tour, A RESERVATION IS REQUIRED. Please book at email@example.com and include your name (s), desired tour date, daily deal site name, & voucher #(s). Our reservations desk will reply with a confirmation email including all the pertinent information needed to insure your bike rental goes quickly and smoothly.
Do you require a security deposit? Back to top
For all rentals we require and ID. For comfort bike rentals, we require a credit card as a security deposit. For performance and electric bikes, we require a credit card authorization for rental.
What methods of payment do you accept? Back to top
We accept all major credit cards online and in our storefronts. We also accept cash and travelers checks for payment at our storefronts. Do note that all rentals, regardless of method of payment, require a credit card for the security deposit.

We have three convenient locations on Fisherman's Wharf: 2661 Taylor Street (between North Point and Beach Street), 501 Bay Street (at Taylor next to the Cable Car Turnaround), and 1325 Columbus (between North Point and Leavenworth).

The “F Market & Wharves” trolley runs along Market St. Downtown San Francisco, along The Embarcadero and stops at Taylor Street which is one block away from our 2661 Taylor Street location. The Powell/Mason Cable car line stops right outside our 501 Bay Street location.
