Alcatraz Island, located in San Francisco Bay, has a rich history dating back to its early use as a military fortification in the mid-19th century. It later became a federal penitentiary in 1934, housing some of America's most notorious criminals, including Al Capone and George "Machine Gun" Kelly. The prison closed in 1963 due to high operating costs, and in 1969, the island was occupied by Native American activists for 19 months, bringing attention to indigenous rights. Today, Alcatraz is a popular tourist attraction managed by the National Park Service, offering visitors guided tours of its historic prison cells, gardens, and exhibits detailing its storied past.
Our combo tours are a perfect way to see the top sites of the City by the Bay.
